OU's online nursing program named fifth-best in nation

The ranking comes from Best College Reviews.

When Ohio University administrators established its online RN to BSN program in 2009, they aimed to meet a need.

Over the following six years, OU's online nursing program did that well enough to attract national attention from the website Best College Reviews, which ranked the program the fifth-best of its kind in the nation for 2015.

Best College Reviews cited the OU program's flexibility as the key factor for its success.

Each year features eight different start dates for the program, according to the ranking site, and classes last five weeks.

"This allows both full and part-time RN’s the ability to work while also completing the program at a reasonable pace," the ranking said.

Bradley Cohen, OU's senior vice provost for Instructional Innovation, called the ranking an indication that OU, and specifically its College of Health Sciences and Professions, is "doing something really really right."

"This is down to the leadership that’s been in place for years to see this as an important area where there was a need...but to do it with the quality that has attracted that number of students," Cohen said.

OU's online RN to BSN program costs about $250 per credit hour — the 10th-most affordable of its kind, according to the ranking.
