Marijuana proposal approved by Ohio Ballot Board

A marijuana advocacy group is one step closer to getting their proposal on the ballot after having it approved by the state Ballot Board on Friday.

A Columbus-based advocacy group is one step closer to getting marijuana legalization on the Ohio ballot this November.

The state’s Ballot Board approved ResponsibleOhio’s ballot proposal Friday, according the a news release sent out that afternoon.

“The Ballot Board affirmed what we have always known, that the Marijuana Legalization Amendment is a single issue,” said Lydia Bolander, ResponsibleOhio spokeswoman, in the release.  “With today’s approval, we will move forward with collecting the signatures required to put our amendment before voters in November.”

If passed, the proposal would authorize marijuana to be grown at ten growing facilities throughout the state of Ohio.

The marijuana would then go to one of five testing facilities before being shipped off to retailers.

ResponsibleOhio proposed that one testing facility be located in Athens.

The measure also would allow certified individuals over the age of 21 to home-grow up to four marijuana plants.

The group must collect 305,591 signatures before the proposal can appear on the ballot, according to past Post reports.
