The former director of OU’s Global Leadership Center was investigated and had his contract “non-renewed” after allegations of inappropriate conduct while on a trip to Vietnam surfaced.

Emery’s dismissal caused the university to lose about $1.25 million in potential donations.

Former GLC director’s contract 'non-renewed'

Greg Emery, former GLC director, will no longer be employed by OU after his contract was non-renewed

Greg Emery, former director of the Global Leadership Center, will no longer be employed at Ohio University after his contract was recently non-renewed, OU spokeswoman Katie Quaranta said.

Officials have not said why Emery, who was previously under investigation for “allegations of inappropriate misconduct,” was initially investigated and had his contract not renewed.

The university placed Emery on paid administrative leave Oct. 14, according to a previous Post report. He was not permitted to be on campus nor contact any current and past students and employees during that time.

Robert Stewart, director of the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, has served as the interim director of the Global Leadership Center since October.

“We are continuing to manage the GLC in a way that preserves the unique qualities which provide OHIO students with memorable experiential learning experiences,” Quaranta said. “As it has been to this point, Dr. Bob Stewart and Dr. Brook Beshah will support our current GLC students through this academic year.”

Beshah is an adjunct professor in the university’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism.

In November, The Post obtained a copy of Emery’s personnel file through a public records request that included the letter requiring his leave of absence in October and information about his career.

That file showed Emery to be an internationally recognized academic, as well as someone involved in OU’s global outreach efforts. In the past he took OU students to countries in Asia multiple times. Reports of previous misconduct or discipline were not included or referenced in his file at that time.
