The Mid-American Conference named Ohio junior guard Kiyanna Black the MAC East Player of the Week Monday following her performances against Akron and Central Michigan on Jan. 28 and 31., respectively.
While playing Akron, Black notched 15 points, eight rebounds and two assists in the Bobcats' 72-60 win. It was the first time Ohio defeated Akron since 2012.
Later in the week, Black tallied 19 points, two rebounds and four steals, a team high, as Ohio defeated Central Michigan, 74-66, behind Black's 41 percent shooting. It was the second time this season the Bobcats have defeated the Chippewas — who were ranked first in MAC preseason polls.
Behind Black, the Bobcats are leading the MAC at 17-3 and are 8-1 in conference play. The last time Ohio was 8-1 in MAC play was in 1995, when it reached the NCAA Tournament.
