Anthem, which administers OU’s employee health care, was hacked last week.
Ohio University officials say no employees have yet been affected by the recent hack on Anthem, which administers OU’s PPO medical plan.
The hack to the nation’s second-largest healthcare provider garnered media attention Jan. 5. The company does not currently know who is responsible for the attack.
Names, dates of birth, member IDs, social security numbers, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and employment information were obtained in the hack, according to Anthem’s website.
No medical information, including diagnosis or treatment data, was retrieved.
“At this time, Anthem has not established whether any Ohio University faculty and staff were impacted by the data security breach,” Greg Fialko, director of benefits at OU, said in an email to employees.
As of Wednesday, Fialko was unsure whether OU employee information was exposed as a result of the attack.
“Based on unscientific social media observation, I would say that faculty are understandably very concerned about the hack,” said Beth Quitslund, chair of Faculty Senate and an associate professor of English.
Officials say they will continue to monitor the situation and update employees as needed.
