J. Patrick Campbell, a national member of the Ohio University Board of Trustees, died Thursday.
J. Patrick Campbell, a national trustee on the Ohio University Board of Trustees, has died, university officials said.
OU President Roderick McDavis said in a statement that he and his wife Deborah are “stunned and deeply saddened” by Campbell’s passing.
“Pat’s warm demeanor, striking intellect, natural charisma and innate leadership skills have energized and empowered the work of our Board in recent years,” McDavis said. “His dedicated service stemmed from his love of Ohio University and its students, for which the Ohio University community is deeply grateful.”
Campbell was appointed to the Board of Trustees in June 2012 for a three-year term, according to a previous Post report.
“Our Century Bond and debt management strategies are just a few of the initiatives informed by his financial expertise,” McDavis said. “Throughout his service to the Ohio University Board of Trustees and the Ohio University Foundation Board of Trustees, Pat’s wealth of knowledge regarding monetary policy played an integral role in securing Ohio’s financial future.”
Campbell is a 1971 OU graduate and was the executive chairman of the Board of Universal Companies, a spa product distributor, since 2011.
He also served as president of Nasdaq U.S. Markets until his retirement in December 2001, where he previously held several executive positions at the Nasdaq Stock Market.
In addition, Campbell is a retired command pilot from the U.S. Air Force and received the Bronze Star for his service.
