Built To Spill

New acts added to Nelsonville Music Festival, including Brandi Carlile, Built to Spill

Brandi Carlile and Built to Spill added to Nelsonville Music Festival lineup.

In a third round of announcements for this year's Nelsonville Music Festival, 15 more artists were added to the lineup, including Americana singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile and indie-rock band Built to Spill.

The Nelsonville Music Festival is set to run May 28 through the 31, also featuring artists Merle Haggard, The Flaming Lips and St. Vincent.

Singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile hails from Seattle and is starting out on her tour on May 22. Her most recent album, "The Firewatcher's Daughter" is set to be released on March 3. Her most recent albums include "Bear Creek" released in 2012, and "Give Up The Ghost" in 2009.

"(Carlile has) an unbelievable voice, it’s kind of what she’s know for is just really blowing people away vocally but is a great songwriter as well," said Brian Koscho, marketing director of Stuart’s Opera House.

Built to Spill is a seminal indie band from Boise, Idaho. The band's upcoming album "Untethered Moon" is set for release on CD and digital on April 21, and vinyl pressing will be made available on April 18 for Record Store Day. "Untethered Moon" is the group's 9th album spanning a now 18-year career. Fans have long awaited new material following 2009's "There Is No Enemy."

“(Built to Spill has) a lot of fuzzy, guitar, awesome songs and solos," Koscho said. "If you like rock ’n’ roll, it’s definitely in your wheelhouse.”

Natalie Prass may be buried in the lineup announcement, but she is certainly an artist to look out for after Pitchfork rated her newest self-titled album an 8.3/10, garnering her a spot on the publication's "Best New Music" list. The rating has made her one of the most talked about indie artists of 2015 so far.

"(Prass has) been making some really, really amazing music," Koscho said. For a lot of people who might be coming there who haven’t heard her before, that’s someone they’re going to walk away with a new appreciation for.”

NMF also continues its tradition of featuring local Ohio artists including Bummers, Speaking Suns, Dead Hand of Man and Heatwave Dance Party.

“Every year at the festival, having bands from Ohio and people who have connections to here is an important thing to what we do," Koscho said. "Every year, there are lots of local bands from Ohio. …. As we get further along, more of those people tend to get announced.”

28 acts have been announced and usually at the end, there are a little more than 50 scheduled. Koscho said it's fun to see other people get excited about the lineup as it is announced.
