Roderick McDavis

Letter: Roderick McDavis for U.S. Senate

President McDavis is a prime candidate for the U.S. Senate.

Funding plutocrats and no representation is indicative of the growing spiritual crisis the disconnection between Washington, D.C., and Ohio has left for the young and elder together.

Ohio needs a leader. Now more than ever, our U.S. Senate needs experts. There is only one person who understands the tribulations of Appalachian and urban poverty, the blight of jobs hemorrhaging from our state and the specifications of service that are needed for quality, lasting change. He’s a son of Dayton with the roots, charisma and communication skill to bring the experience of leadership, professional expertise and interests of students, to a broken D.C. There is no incumbent more qualified to represent Ohio in the United States Senate than our own Dr. Roderick McDavis, President of Ohio University.

United States Senator Roderick McDavis represents Ohio's wellbeing, first.

President McDavis leads the national flagship campus and system through the struggles of the rising costs of living, the increasing poverty, and the influence of multi-national corporations, which too often play favoritism to both coasts. McDavis’ historic candidacy will end worthless K Street connections in place of decent determination, and for Ohio, give students our voice and opportunities — part of the moral of public education — that have become mythic for too many across America.

Our community teams for #SenatorMcDavis reflect Roderick as the leader who is emblematic of a great story of partnerships for people's prosperity. Nothing's to say, as a proven leader, he couldn't run for President or Vice President as our Senate nominee in 2016 as well. He’s Ohio's optimist with incredible character, integrity for the law, a true middle class communicator and a giver we need for minorities across the state. As our advocate, he can even retain his position at our alma mater. He’s more than a candidate — he’s the sole university leader in our state who has consistently invested in a smart Ohio for 12 consecutive years! He's our champion on environmental integrity, women's and youth issues and health care for all. And of course, he has an army of inspired courageous Rod-Teams to canvass to elect him and an intact growing network around the entire state for mobilization purposes: Yes He Will!

There is no sitting official in our state who better exemplifies the courage we need. We’ve all seen the disappearance of bright days one headline after the next — whether our governor’s bidding or the plutocracy’s in D.C. We are about to see the largest retirement in world history over the next 15 years, which will leave the country more retired than Florida today: America’s seniors need a solid voice for modernizing Social Security, protecting Medicare and stabilizing our debt situation through smart appropriations — none of which entail siphoning public service to raw marketers as Rob Portman devotes. Senator Warren received millions, from the universities of California and other colleges, for her hard work. We can oust flatter-world together to give this state the greatness vital to Ohio! The Senate needs Roderick's vote!

Roderick knows that only excellent managers can balance budgets and create surplus; that good trade practices for Ohio families have green-collar careers; and that public education is the civic mission of our time. Roderick sustained thousands of jobs during the most turbulent economic downturn in modern U.S. history. He listens to students, the experts and manufacturers who make our state the home turf for greatness. Local Athenians see him in restaurants, bars and stores. If he’s ever had downtime, it’s to congratulate the people who he has helped succeed!

The failure of Portman gradually was affected over many years, wasting his time in Washington since day one. As my Congressman in 1993, his first vote was to ship hundreds of thousands of jobs out of this country through NAFTA to places where human rights are still awfully absent. He felt obligated to assist Bush with a huge number of reckless trade policies, and of course, turned his back on Ohio families again, opportunistically, two years after his own son needed a cover. In that month alone, as Portman sat on CNN in March of 2013, Ohio lost 20,000 jobs from his harmful policies that peddled his entire career. His ethics have never meaningfully added up: unhealthy and unequal, unnecessarily zealous, personally restrictive, sycophant on Iraq, fracking public lands, insulting to public education and too many inept others against Ohio's wellbeing. It doesn't take political science to see that Portman's over — his students will be OK with the mansion and millions he’s made on the backs of Ohioans while in office. If America is to rise and shine, it's time Ohio elects U.S. Senator Roderick McDavis with educated expertise impacting innovation.

Do not settle for unfairness in this state. Ohio is a place of opportunity and fairness.

From Avon Lake to Felicity, the choir of canvassers and convention speeches call for the same thing to thrive: Ohio’s ready for a real-life leader who has spent their lifetime helping people bloom to realize their potentials. Roderick's independent resolve makes him the best choice to be our Senator. No more games — and no more wasted dollars or time. By launching a community committee for Senator McDavis, we are securing our future as Ohioans. Roderick McDavis is our state’s leader we need now as Senator.
