The Athens County Commissioners will be hosting their weekly meeting tomorrow morning to discuss training for emergency service workers, a new parking lot near community center and building a new driveway for ACDJFS.
Athens County 911 Director Dan Pfeiffer will meet with the Athens County Commissioners Tuesday morning to seek approval for his emergency response workers receiving dispatcher training.
“I have to approve any request that exceeds $500 with the county commissioners,” Pfeiffer said.
Pfeiffer expressed uncertainty regarding whether his request would be able to obtain approval from the commissioners.
“The training will be going through EmergiTech, the software company that we use,” Lenny Eliason, county commissioner, said.
EmergiTech is a public safety software company based in Columbus.
“This training is definitely important, so I think we will approve the proposal, but we will see,” County Commissioner Charlie Adkins said.
Commissioners will also discuss approving a few new volunteers to begin working at the Athens County Dog Shelter.
However, representatives from the dog shelter are not expected to be present at Tuesday morning’s meeting.
Bob Gallagher, director of Athens County Department of Job and Family Services, will also be in attendance at Tuesday’s meeting, though commissioners aren’t entirely sure what he’ll be discussing.
“I’m not sure what he will be bringing in, but I’m assuming it has to do with gaining approval for some contracts or programs that he has discussed in the past,” Adkins said.
Adkins plans to discuss the sharing of county-owned equipment with the department.
“We have a nice tractor that could be useful during the winter. Maybe they could possibly use it to build a new driveway for their building,” Adkins added. “Tomorrow we can discuss the costs and see if we can work something out because I think it would be helpful for everyone.”
Additionally, there is another project that Adkins would like to see discussed at Tuesday’s meeting.
“I’m going to present to the other commissioners plans to possibly write up a contract to survey some land near the Athens County Community Center,” Adkins said.
The area Adkins is looking at is less than half an acre of land, he said, and is mostly marsh. He would like to see it turned into a parking lot.
“The plan is to possibly turn it into more parking, but right now we will just discuss the possibility of surveying the land to see what we got,” Adkins said.
