Here are the most popular crime alerts from this semester.
Crime is a daily occurrence in Athens.
But sometimes local officers have to deal with especially odd cases — whether it involves picking up a dead rodent or tracking down a woman’s missing dentures — and those cases made their way to The Post’s weekly police blotter.
Here is a memorable selection of police activity over the course of Fall Semester:
Flying orange
On Sept. 11, a woman filed a report to the Ohio University Police Department after she was hit by an orange thrown from the fourth floor of Brown Hall.
“Mow me”
A homeowner’s front yard on Ring Street was vandalized with weed killer between Sept. 20 and 25, according to an APD report. The perpetrator christened the lawn with a message for the resident that said “Mow me.”
25 quarters go missing
An Athens Police officer was notified on Oct. 3 of a theft totaling $6.25 in quarters at the Andover Court Apartments on a Friday night.
The victim reported that the change was taken by a known suspect, according a report.
Scott Quad squirrel
OUPD received a report on Oct. 12 that someone placed a dead squirrel on the door of room 200 in Scott Quadrangle.
Rogue fire extinguisher
A man said on Oct. 22 he found a fire extinguisher in the bathroom of Buffalo Wild Wings and then proceeded to pick it up.
The extinguisher went off and discharged without any pressure on the handle, according to a report.
The man left the bar immediately after the incident.
Stolen porta-potty
OUPD officers responded to a call on Oct. 27 reporting a porta-potty had been stolen from the Park Place construction site outside of Alden Library.
Sticky door lock
OUPD officers responded on Nov. 1 to a criminal mischief call at Bromley Hall. Upon arrival, officers found what appeared to be super glue squeezed into the keyhole of a door handle on the ninth floor.
Missing jeans
OUPD received a phone complaint on Nov. 4 from a woman about her two pairs of blue jeans that were allegedly stolen from the dryer in Gamertsfelder Hall’s laundry area between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. the previous day.
Toothless lady
A Glouster woman was left toothless on Nov. 20 after her dentures were potentially swiped from a parked car, according to an Athens County Sheriff’s Office report. The woman didn’t know who would have taken them but advised deputies that she needed to file a report for insurance reasons.
Wrong bathroom
On Nov. 23, a man stumbled into a room on the third floor of Wilson Hall and began urinating on a futon before being stopped by a person who lived on the floor, according to an OUPD report.
OUPD officers couldn’t locate the urinating man.
