OU senior featured on MSNBC.
An Ohio University senior is featured on MSNBC’s new series, “Women in Politics: College Edition.”
Zainab Kandeh, a journalism major and treasurer of Student Senate also chairs Students in Philanthropy. She was nominated by OU for, “making a difference not only through key issues on campus, but in bridging the gender gap in politics,” according to an article on MSNBC’s website.
Kandeh and the other 35 women are a part of a larger national discussion on women’s issues and female political candidates, according to the article.
Women in Politics: College Edition is a part of the larger MSNBC series Women of 2014.
"It was such an honor to represent Ohio University like that, and that people thought that much of me to nominate me," Kandeh told The Post. "It was really great to get to be a part of it."
She told MSNBC her top female influences include: Oprah Winfrey, Barbara Walters, Michelle Obama, Jane Addams and Malala Yousafzai.
“I am also very much inspired by women such as my mother, my mentors and the faculty, staff and administrators of Ohio University, as well as my peers,” Kandeh told MSNBC.
Asked if she would consider running for public office one day, Kandeh said:
“While I do not know what the future holds I do believe in dreaming big. I do hope to one day serve my community in a political capacity, but what I know for sure is that I will always advocate for what is right and help others any way I can in whatever it is I do.”
