The photo project Humans of New York currently has more than 11 million likes on Facebook.
On Monday, those who follow the site, which posts pictures daily documenting people strolling through the streets of New York City, got a little taste of Athens.
Athens-area couple Space and Smiles Welch were photographed as part of the project. The pair are documented explaining why they changed their names:
"I legally changed my name to Space. It’s to remind me that the problems in your life are like stars. When you’re up close to them, they can burn you. But when you see them with space between them, they are phenomenal specks of light."
"And I changed my name to Smiles!"
The picture, as of Monday evening, had collected more than 3,000 notes on Tumblr, as well as more than 114,800 likes and 6,000-plus shares on Facebook. You can see the post here.
The pair were featured in the 2011 Soul of Athens project, which that year featured people in Athens who embodied the different interpretations of the American dream. Take a peek at their story.
