Stairs in Alden library are about to get a lot busier
The elevators in Alden were temporarily out of service during the day on Wednesday for a variety of reasons.
In a statement provided to The Post from University Communications Specialist Katie Quaranta, the three elevators in Alden are down for different reasons.
The statement said “Elevator #1 is down for a planned renovation. The renovation is about one month in an approximately three month long project. All three elevators will be renovated, sequentially, during the next year.”
The other two were down temporarily for separate issues.
“Elevators 2 and 3 were temporarily out of service this morning, but repaired and returned to service before noon today,” the statement said.
“This morning, elevator #2 had a problem where the inside car door stainless steel skin was coming off causing a malfunction in the door operations. The door wouldn’t open at times. Our contracted technicians addressed the issue to prevent the door from getting hung up. It is now up and functioning.”
“Additionally, this morning the 2nd floor front door would not open for elevator #3. The issue was resolved so that the elevator can operate, and a replacement part has been ordered. Replacement is planned for Friday.”
Earlier this year in October, the library announced that construction on the elevators would result in each individual elevator being closed and inoperable for 10 to 12 weeks. According to the article written that month, the elevator restoration process would be completed by June 2015.
