West Virginia band Qiet returns to Casa Nueva on Saturday

Casa Nueva won’t be quiet Saturday night — not after Qiet takes the stage

Casa Nueva won’t be quiet Saturday night — not after Qiet takes the stage.

The genre-defying band out of West Virginia will once again play for Casa after opener The Angie Haze Project.

While no label can truly do it justice, the band brings together elements of 1920s jazz and punk rock, along with influences from just about every other genre.

“We pull from all styles of the world. It’d be silly to corner us in the genre,” said Christopher Vincent, lead vocalist in the band.

Terms like chameleon rock and vaudeville pop have been used in the past to describe the band.

Qiet, which Vincent started in 2009, has seen its fair share of faces. Over the years, the band has had around 30 members. At one point, they had 13 people on the stage.

As members have come and gone, the band has added more elements to the music but believes they have now established a firm lineup.

“I’ve always been looking for quality musicians, people who can do anything. Now I’ve finally found my family,” Vincent said.

Vincent, now the only original member left, prefers to write lyrics that pose philosophical questions while still keeping the lyrics simple. Qiet’s newest album, available on its website, was produced by Eddie Ashworth, one of Ohio University’s School of Media Arts and Studies professors.

“It’s incredible working with Eddie. He’s extremely versatile,” said Vincent, who plans on working with Ashworth again.

Though they enjoy recording music, the band is at its best on stage. Their performance, which fans have unanimously considered theatrical, is full of energy from beginning to end, Vincent explained.

“Coming to our shows mean stepping out of a box and trying something new.”
