MAC Notebook: Big losses give way to big games in odd week for MAC

After a quick ‘week’ of football in the Mid-American Conference, a short turnaround approaches as mid-week MACtion gets underway with two games on each Tuesday and Wednesday.

After a quick ‘week’ of football in the Mid-American Conference, a short turnaround approaches as mid-week MACtion gets underway with two games on each Tuesday and Wednesday.

On Saturday, Central Michigan (6-4, 4-2 MAC) was victorious in a  38-7 rout of Eastern Michigan (2-7, 1-4 MAC). The Chippewas allowed the Eagles’ only score to come in the  fourth quarter after Central Michigan had essentially put in its second unit.

Across the state, Western Michigan (6-3, 4-1 MAC) took it to Miami, coming out with a  41-10 victory. The Broncos are within one game of Toledo (5-3, 4-0 MAC) at the top of the MAC West.

“We just played terrible, we stunk on all sides of the ball,” Miami coach  Chuck Martin said.

“It’s hard to win games only putting up 10 points and giving up 41. Hard to swallow this loss.”

As for this week, the headline game will take place when Bowling Green (5-3, 3-1 MAC) travels to Akron  Tuesday for their second night game of the season.

The Zips (4-4, 2-2 MAC) will face a tough test, even on their home field. Bowling Green has an established offense that brings a variety of schemes to the table. The two are both atop the East Division, bringing a fight for the top of the table this week.

Although they are only  one game behind the top of the division, Akron is currently on a  two-game losing skid after falling to  Ohio and  Ball State.

Also on Tuesday, Kent State (1-7, 0-4) will host Toledo.

Toledo (5-3, 4-0), along with Kent State, are both coming off a bye week and haven’t played since October 25.

Despite Toledo leading the MAC West, they shouldn’t overlook Kent State’s abysmal season come Tuesday.

Kent State is in desperation mode, but home or not, this game should be lopsided.

Toledo comes into this game a  14-point favorite, but rightfully so. Kent State is playing at home, yet this game has the potential to get out of hand quickly.

On the Wednesday version on MACtion, Northern Illinois (6-2, 3-1 MAC) will travel to  Muncie, Indiana, to take on  Ball State. The Huskies are coming off a  two-game win streak.

Ball State (3-5, 2-2 MAC) faces a tough Huskie team at home. Northern Illinois is  3-1 on the road this year, not exactly aiding the struggling Cardinals.
