Police were notified Friday evening of a theft totaling $6.25 in quarters, taken by a suspect known by the victim.
Sometimes weekend crime in Athens is as paltry as a disrupted piggy bank.
Especially when one Athens Police Department officer was notified of a theft totaling $6.25 in quarters at the Andover Court Apartments on Friday night.
The victim reported that the change was taken by a known suspect, according to an APD report.
The case is still under investigation.
However, some weekend crimes took on a more serious tone.
On Sunday, a female student reported that she was assaulted by an unknown man after 8 p.m. while she was walking near Washington arch.
The suspect was described as being approximately 5’10” and wearing a dark hoodie. The victim stated that they were walking in opposite directions when the attacker grabbed her, prompting her to strike him in the face and run away.
The victim could not provide any more details at the time, a report from the Ohio University Police Department said. The department is investigating incident, and plans on releasing a crime alert soon.
During the week of Sept. 29-Oct 5., there were 11 alcohol-related citations and four drug-related citations, according to OUPD reports.
Three males, who were found intoxicated around 1 a.m. on the roof of New Life Assembly of God Church, 10 S. Green Dr., were issued summons by OUPD officers for underage consumption by intoxication and criminal trespass. Their court hearing is set for Oct. 6.
Campus was also a hit by a handful of graffiti-related crimes last week, the first occurring Tuesday when a grounds maintenance worker advised OUPD of spray-painted graffiti on the brick wall surrounding the air handler on the South side of Glidden Hall, facing East Union Street. Damages were estimated at $100 by the maintenance worker.
Four days later, the gate of the Convocation Center facing Shafer Street was reported to be targeted by spray-painters. Both criminal acts are inactive, pending investigative leads.
