This Homecoming Weekend, several new alumni joined the ranks of Ohio University’s honored graduates.
Robert Walters, former chairman and CEO of Cardinal Health in Columbus and a 1967 graduate of OU, was named Alumnus of the Year at the annual Alumni Awards Gala on Friday, according to a university news release.
Walters, who was honored at the black-tie event, founded Cardinal Health at the age of 26. He has served as chairman of the OU Board of Trustees, has worked with the Promise Lives campaign and has supported the renovation and construction of three facilities on campus — most recently the Walter Fieldhouse.
Alumni who have achieved distinction in their chosen fields are awarded a Medal of Merit. This year’s four recipients of the medal were …
-
Joe Harford, cancer researcher and educator, 1973
-
Arthur Marinelli, professor of business law, 1964
-
Jack Myslenski, former marketing executive, 1973
-
Gary Olmstead, percussionist and emeritus professor, MFA 1966
Other alumni also received awards for distinguished service, scholar-athletic achievements and lifetime achievements.
“It was a humbling experience to be surrounded by such talent, intellect and dedication to Ohio University at this year’s Alumni Awards Gala,” said Jennifer Neubauer, assistant vice president of Alumni Relations and executive director of Ohio University Alumni Association, in the news release. “These individuals represent the many loyal alumni and friends who give generously of their time, talent and treasure to the University each year, and who have distinguished themselves in their chosen fields. We feel so fortunate to count them as part of our Bobcat family.”
