Tw o bands are set to rock the Jackie O's stage.
Despite what it says on the “About” tab of The Motel Beds Facebook page, the band doesn’t consist of all male dancers at the Dayton Applebee’s Tuesday lunch shifts.
“That was our label’s idea of a little joke,” laughs Tod Weidner, bassist for The Motel Beds. “There will be no male dancers at the show unfortunately—or fortunately, depending on your perspective.”
The Motel Beds will take the stage tomorrow alongside rock-and-roll band Hex Net at Jackie O’s Pub & Brewery, 24 W. Union St. Audiences can expect the concert to be a fair representation of Motel Beds’ newest album, These are the Days Gone By (Misra Records).
The Motel Beds, based out of Dayton, aren’t strangers the Athens. In addition to playing at Central Venue in September, they also played at the Union’s Blackout Fest last April.
“College towns tend to be good to us,” said Weidner. “We’re certain to get a little bit of a following.”
Weidner adds that their music style is heavily influenced by the Beatles and Oasis, but the album that’s still in the works drew inspiration from the Beach Boys.
“Our singer who co-writes all the songs, PJ, has been a fan of Beach Boys all his life,” Weidner said. “We had a fun get together trying to come up with some cool harmony arrangements.”
And although they haven’t met Hex Net yet, The Motel Beds are looking forward to the performance.
“We always like meeting the bands that we’re playing with,” Weidner said. “They tend to turn into friendships.”
