Ohio continued its string of dominant performances going in front of its home crowd on Friday when it defeated visiting West Virginia 8-1. Ohio improved its record to 5-0 with the win.
It was an early power play that set up Ohio's first goal, as the Bobcats patiently waited out a well-defended two minutes by the Mountaineers before Derek Rahme finally got a chance to the left of the goalie and delivered a quick shot that provided Ohio with an early lead.
The Bobcats didn't waste much time striking again, as Nathan De La Torre came through with his second goal of the season and made it a 2-0 Ohio lead with just over eight minutes to play.
Ohio got off to a quick start in the second period, flashing two goals within twenty seconds of each other. Tom Whetsel struck first for the Bobcats, before Adam Sterenko came right back with another goal to quickly double Ohio's lead in the second.
West Virginia added its first goal seconds later, while Tom Benson went on to score Ohio's fifth goal of the game with nine minutes remaining in the second.
Three Ohio stars added extra insurance in the third period, with Joe Breslin, Paul Sergi and Patrick Spellacy each scoring in the final ten minutes of the game. The Bobcats outshot West Virginia 41-15.
Ohio hits the road to travel back to West Virginia's home ice tomorrow for a 4:00 start. It will be the Bobcats' first road game of the season.
