Gamer Girl: Screen size for the iPhone 6 Plus might be too big

I have pretty much always been a fan of large phone screens.

This is one of the main reasons I never got an iPhone. Currently I have the HTC One and before that was the Samsung Galaxy 3. One of my first draws to these phones were the screen size.

The HTC One has a 4.7 inch screen, which to me is the perfect size. I can hold my phone in one hand and reach essentially all points on the screen without much effort. It’s also a comfortable size to talk on or use two hands when typing or playing games.

I’ve always thought it was comical how phone companies piggyback off of each other with trends. The newest of these, of course, is screen size. Look at the newest iPhone releases — the 6 is 4.7 inches and the 6 Plus is 5.5 inches. It seems as though all new releases are trying to be bigger and better than the last.

But how big is too big?

I think phones like the Galaxy Note 4 and the iPhone 6 Plus look ridiculous. You could be a seven-foot tall athlete and I still think the phone would look too large.

It’s awkward to hold in one hand, which is how I generally find myself holding mine. It looks pretty silly to talk on a phone with a 5.5-inch screen. I can’t even imagine trying to fit that size phone into pants pockets.

However, people just aren’t using phones for the intended purpose anymore; making calls. For most people, or at least college students, actually making phone calls is a minor part of what they do on the device. Having a large-screened phone essentially makes it function like a tablet.

This means it can be used for a lot more things than just a phone — easily taking notes in class, having a larger screen to play Clash of Clans, being able to better edit photos or for getting work done. Web pages no longer need to be zoomed in to read. More icons can fit on your home screen and widgets can be larger.

It also has the convenience factor of having the device have more functions. You don’t need to carry around a tablet and your phone. Heck, you don’t even need to buy both of the devices!

While I’m going to be sticking to my current screen size, I won’t blame you if for upgrading your size. It finally has a purpose.
