Comedy set to fill Casa Nueva Thursday.
Blue Pencil Comedy will make an appearance Thursday at Casa Nueva offering up free laughs.
The show begins at 10:30 p.m. and is the only performance the group is giving at the bar this semester.
Ryan Gabos, a member of Blue Pencil, said the group’s main goal is to “give kids an outlet where they can try their hand at stand-up and work on their material.”
Gabos, who has been with the group for more than two years, has plenty of experience. Elected to the executive board last year, he is now the vice president of Blue Pencil. Like many members, he started off going to shows, and then decided to try and perform himself.
“Performing in Athens for college students can feel like you’re almost being spoiled because the audience is so great and receptive,” Gabos said. “It’s a blessing.”
The group typically performs at the Bobcat Student Lounge in Baker University Center every Saturday night and also frequents other local hangouts such as The Over Hang and Donkey Coffee & Espresso, where the troupe puts on a variety show.
The stand up show consists of twelve members delivering old and new material. Whether it’s a fresh face or a returning veteran, each comedian will have five to ten minutes to entertain the audience.
“We’re a bunch of ragtag comedic types who just want to entertain you,” Gabos said. “We’re in it for the laughs and good vibes.”
Any student interested in getting involved with the group can attend the workshops at 6 p.m. in Baker Room 341. The group meets on Mondays and Wednesdays, where they help each other craft jokes and create new material.
“We really enjoy playing at Casa,” Gabos said. “Twelve of Blue Pencil’s finest are ready to bring the funny.”
