OUPD continues to search for information about the shooting scare that left East Green dorms evacuated this July.
Almost two months after no evidence turned up following a reported shooting on East Green, the Ohio University Police Department continues to hunt for clues about what actually took place.
The incident was named among Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous' Crimes of the Month for September.
The afternoon of July 15, Ohio University received a call from the Brown County Communications Center about a possible shooting on campus in Athens. A man who identified himself as John Jackson and added that he was calling from 58 East Green Dr., the address for Gamertsfelder Hall, said he had shot his mother.
An extensive search for the caller or any sign of distress ended fruitlessly and OUPD Chief Andrew Powers soon concluded there were no signs any shooting took place.
According to a release Friday, Athens County Crime Solvers Anonymous could offer up to $2,000 for any information leading to an arrest or indictment for those involved in the incident, and a number of other recent crimes in the area — some involving students.
In the early morning of Aug. 23, students living off OU’s campus in Athens reported, their homes had been entered either by force or “under the guise of attending a social gathering,” according to the release. Once inside the residences, the suspects apparently proceeded to steal six laptops and one electronic tablet.
A rash of vehicle and trailer thefts also have taken place in Athens over the past couple months, according to the release.
The release claims that at least four camper, utility or enclosed trailers have been stolen inside the city since the beginning the crime spree.
Days before the shooting scare on OU’s campus, the release indicates, a stabbing took place in Athens County on July 10.
A man named Jerry L. Noble is sought for questioning in connection to the stabbing, according to the release. Noble, who is 42 years old, is described as being 5-foot-3 and weighing 145 pounds, with blue eyes and blonde hair.
Earlier, on June 26, two male suspects allegedly entered an refrigerator in front of Tammy’s Country Kitchen in Nelsonville and stole large amounts of meat and other food. By the time Nelsonville Police officers showed up minutes later, the suspects had left the scene.
