Police Blotter: Police investigate assault involving an orange

Over the past week, a student was assaulted with an orange and there were six drug-related citations.

When looking at weekly crime reports logged with the Ohio University Police Department — often related to drugs, alcohol and theft — things aren’t always apples to oranges.

Especially this week.

A woman filed a police report with OUPD Thursday after she was hit by an orange thrown from the fourth floor of Brown Hall.

Meanwhile, OUPD saw six drug-related offenses from Sept. 8 to Sept. 14, resulting in six citations and a summons to appear in court.

The department also received four theft reports last week — three of which happened on Wednesday.

Just before noon Wednesday, OUPD received a report from Morton Hall regarding a stolen Raleigh bike. Later that day, a woman went to OUPD around 6 p.m. to report that her iPad had been stolen from the first floor of Parks Hall. Forty-five minutes later, a man arrived at the department to report that his laptop had been stolen from the seventh floor of Alden Library.

The department also saw a handful of reports relating to aggression toward women. On Wednesday, OUPD arrested a man after two females logged a complaint to the department, claiming that he was showing a “pattern of disturbing behavior.” The man was then charged with aggravated menacing and menacing by stalking.

A day later, police charged a man for menacing by stalking when a female student reported that she was being stalked by a former boyfriend after their relationship had ended.

Both offenders were transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail.

Over the weekend, police were called to Treudley Hall to check on a drunk male who had passed out in a bathroom on the third floor. The man was transported to O’Bleness Memorial Hospital, and received summons for underage consumption and intoxication.

Meanwhile, officials with the Athens Police Department kept busy on Friday responding to an assault case.

Police were called to West Union Street around midnight to respond to an assault. The man who made the call said an unknown male assaulted him while he was walking on South Court Street, resulting in a minor injury.

Two hours later, a female went to the APD to report that her boyfriend had struck her under the right eye during an argument while she was driving on Stimson Avenue. When she arrived to the station, her boyfriend fled the scene.

APD also took a report Thursday afternoon for a damaged front door at Wings Over Athens, 33 N. Court St., valued at $700.
