Drug crimes reported by OUPD were on the rise this past week on campus at OU.
A homeowner’s front yard on Ring Street was vandalized this past weekend — perhaps the product of lawn care frustrations.
Sometime between Sept. 20 and Thursday, according to a release from the Athens Police Department, the near north side yard was sprayed with weed killer. The perpetrator christened the lawn with a message for the resident
“Mow me.”
The case is closed pending investigative leads.
In the six-day period from Sept. 22 to Sunday, the Ohio University Police Department reported 12 drug-related citations, compared to six from the previous week, according to its daily log.
On Saturday, OUPD officers responded to a man who was struck by a flying hockey puck. The incident occurred at the Bird Arena during a game for OU’s club hockey team.
The next day in Bromley Hall, an OU custodial maintenance worker reported to OUPD that two elevators had been deliberately damaged. However, there are no leads or witnesses at this time, according an OUPD report.
Outside of patrol calls, APD officers hosted an event they called “Take Back Day” last Saturday.
“Take Back Day” was a Drug Enforcement Administration-led initiative to dispose properly of unused or expired medications, allowing people to take their unneeded medication to various police agency locations.
APD set up two sites this year, one in front of their College Street headquarters and one at Lowe’s on 983 E. State St. The drive was successful, reserve officer Dave Williams said, as APD collected 39 pounds of medications, 13 more pounds compared to last year’s 26.
