Majors fair draws representatives from all colleges

Students came to Baker Ballroom to participate in the Majors Fair, where they received information about OU’s more than 270 majors.

From geography to civil engineering, Ohio University offers students more than 270 majors, many of which were represented at the Majors Fair on Wednesday.

Students, such as Casey Faddoul, a freshman who has not chosen a major yet, travelled through Baker University Center Ballroom to talk to representatives from a variety of colleges.

“The Majors Fair shows you what’s available at Ohio University,” Faddoul said. “I was able to look at majors I didn’t even know existed.”

More than 1,000 students were expected to attend, said Majors Fair Committee Co-Chair, Lindsey Marx.

Although the fair is marketed toward students who are either undecided or changing their major, Marx said she thinks all students could learn something at the fair.

“Students who are decided are able to get information on certificates, minors and even study abroad,” she said.

Faddoul was able to learn more about the areas she is most interested in, especially business and environmental science, all in the same room.

Throughout the afternoon, Randy Price, senior advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences, said he spoke to many students with varying degrees of interest in the College of Arts and Sciences.

“That’s the beauty of the Majors Fair,” Price said. “Students can go anywhere and talk to all the different departments, which is probably the only time they can do that.”

After visiting the tables at the fair, students were able to get advising, print out their DARS and even add certain non-selective majors, minors and certificates outside the Ballroom.

“This is the only time all the colleges and all the departments will be represented,” Price said. “So it’s a perfect place to come and talk to someone from the major you’re interested in.”
