Police and EMS workers load an apparently drunken man into an ambulance parked on Court Street.

Intoxicated man put in ambulance from Court Street

An ambulance and an Athens Police squad car responded Uptown for an intoxicated man Saturday night.

The Athens Police Department and an Athens County Emergency Medical Services ambulance responded to an alley off Court Street late Saturday.

One witness, Charles Seacrist, said he saw three men carrying another man on Court Street when they were approached by an Athens Police officer.

Seacrist is a freshman studying English.

The four men turned up the alley across from The Crystal while the officer ran after them, Seacrist said.

"I think they were trying to get away from a cop," he said, adding that the man was "completely passed out."

Seacrist also said alcohol has "got to be involved."

An APD officer on the scene who refused to be named said no charges would be filed and that the man was "just drunk."

The drunken man was loaded up into the ambulance. It wasn't immediately clear if he would be transported anywhere.
