Ingrid Michaelson announced to play MemAud this fall in the OU Performing Arts and Concert Series.
Ingrid Michaelson will return to the bricks Nov. 13, bringing her signature indie pop sound and catalog of hits including “The Way I Am,” “Everybody” and “Be OK.”
Michaelson previously performed at Ohio University in March of 2010 with Mat Kearney. This time she will return with special guest Rogue Valley to the Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium.
Her newest full-length release, Lights Out, was released April 15 with the single “Girls Chase Boys,” which peaked at No. 52 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard 200.
Lights Out received positive critical reception, including comments from AllMusic’s Matt Collar — “Lights Out features a broadened sonic palette and a much more robust vocal performance; it's a transformation she's been perfecting since 2009's Everybody and 2012's Human Again.”
This album takes Michaelson in a new direction, going more towards a pop vocal and lyrical performance and farther away from a former heavily-ukulele-driven sound.
She’s also straying away from some of her previous themes of breakups and heartbreak. Her music is taking more of an upbeat state of mind for this 2014 release.
Her husband, Greg Laswell is even featured on the ballad “Wonderful Unknown,” which features lyrics like “oh, nothing lasts forever but the sound of love astounds me every time that it calls.”
Tickets go on sale Friday at noon; $35 first 10 rows, $25 for remainder
