Ohio once again kept the area around the John Carroll goal surrounded and congested, launching another barrage of shots that helped it put away the Bluestreaks for the second night in a row by a final score of 2-1.
Ohio was also able to repeat in being the first team to get on the board. With 7:57 to play in the first period, sophomore forward Logan Pfeffer found himself in possession of the puck right in front of John Carroll goalie Dustin Stevens. Pfeffer made a quick move and squeezed a goal past Stevens, giving the Bobcats an early advantage.
The Bluestreaks struggled to get scoring opportunities early, but were able to cash in once they did. Logan Lopicka launched a strike past Ohio sophomore keeper Ryan Heltion, tying the game up with 2:28 to play in the first.
The Bobcats were able to reestablish themselves in the second, as a shot from junior forward Derek Rahme found the net to push his team in front 2-1. Ohio fought through a series of penalties late in the contest to hold onto a close victory.
After dominating the shots on opening night, the Bobcats proved even more defensively strong in the second game. Ohio outshot the Bluestreaks by a count of 55-9, bringing its two-day shot advantage over John Carroll to 101-17.
"I think it just came down to the little things tonight," Rahme said. "The effort was there obviously with fifty-some shots, and we had some big hits. But I think it really came down to some of the little things and a couple mental breakdowns."
"I was disappointed we gave up one goal to be honest," Hogan said. "It was one mistake on the PK that hurt us. I don't think we were as good tonight. But it's hard to win two games in a row at this level, so a sweep is always good."
