The Bobcats competed in the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational this weekend.
The Bobcats traveled to Blacksburg, Virginia to face nationally ranked competition at the Virginia Tech Alumni Invitational and matched the competition really well Friday evening.
Coach Clay Calkins was very pleased with both the men’s and women’s squads after events concluded Friday night.
“We finished fourth on both sides — men and women — and we were pretty solid,” he said.
The men finished ahead of the host, Virginia Tech, but placed fourth behind North Carolina and Florida State – two nationally ranked teams.
Kurt Steinmuller, junior, was the frontrunner for Ohio placing fourth overall. Calkins says that Steinmuller is their number one runner.
Their number two runner is also a junior, Jake Gentile, who placed 16th and was the second Ohio runner to finish.
At the conclusion of this race, Calkins is starting to see his men’s squad become a unit and racing in a pack versus individually.
For the women’s squad, they also placed fourth overall behind Virginia Tech, Florida State, and North Carolina.
Calkins was very happy with his women’s squad performance after they fell a little short at the Miami Invitational a week ago.
“It was good to see some solid competition to see where we stand because we fell short at the Miami Invitational but I think we countered and came back nicely this week. Calkins said.
Junior Kayla Scott was the frontrunner for the Bobcats placing 16th overall.
Calkins sees that talent that Scott has to offer and knows that his team is in good hands if she keeps up the good work.
This weekend proved that the Bobcats know how to handle the pressure of battling against top teams and conferences in the country as they will look to carry that skill into the All-Ohio Invitational this upcoming weekend.
