OU’s chapter of the NAACP is set to hold a “War on Black” rally in support of Ferguson, Mo.
Ohio University’s chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is set to hold a rally on Monday.
The event, called the “War on Black,” will begin at 12 p.m. in the Scripps Amphitheater behind Scripps Hall on the College Green.
The demonstration will focus on racially charged issues that have come to light after the recent events in Ferguson, Mo. — namely the shooting and killing of Michael Brown, an 18-year-old African-American man.
Police brutality and racial profiling will be just some of the issues the event will focus on, said Shambrion Treadwell, a member of OU’s NAACP chapter.
The rally will be the second Ferguson-related demonstration by OU students since the beginning of the academic year. Last Monday, about a dozen students protested Brown’s killing with signs and a march from College Green to Baker University Center.
