There’s always something special about the first day of classes. Whether it’s the feeling of start- ing the semester on good terms or flipping open a new planner, a new academic year offers a new slate of possibilities.
We’re excited to get the semester underway, and we hope you are too. In the spirit of syllabus week, we’re here to explain to you how The Post will be serving you, our readers, this year.
You can expect to see timely news updates on our website, www.thepostathens.com, and newspapers on stands around campus and Athens every day classes are in session.

There are plenty of interesting storylines that we’re excited to follow this year: Student Senate shake-ups, campus construction, indicted sheriff Pat Kelly’s trial — you name it.
Want to sound off about something we published? Think we need to look into a particular topic? Have a qualm with one of your classes? Email opinion editor Xander Zellner at az346610@ohio.edu. We love to hear your opinions, and we’ll print the best of them.
We’ll also offer some of ours, in addition to our reporting. Our opinion content, located on our website and the inside cover of our print edition, gives our staff of columnists, cartoonists and editorial writers the ability to opine about the world around them.
Our editorial board consists of Jim Ryan, editor; Sara Jerde, managing editor, news; Zellner, opinion editor; and Allan Smith, projects editor. All Post editorials represent our majority opinion, and we seek to offer an impartial student voice about the issues that matter most to the student body.
A little bit about our staff: We are student-run and are composed of about 100 artists, editors, reporters and photographers who work in 325 Baker University Center. The Post has been publishing continuously for more than 100 years, and we are fortunate to have a tremendous network of alumni who have shared that experience with us.
We’re an editorially independent publication, which means that we, students, are the first, last and only eyes on the paper before it’s
sent to the printer. This year, to the best of our knowledge, we are the only daily student newspaper in Ohio.
Now more than ever, however, good journalism isn’t only found in the newspaper. We update our website as news happens throughout the day, have a sizable social media presence and aim to bring you the news you want using videos, audio and interactive graphics.
If you’d like to help — or have a question about what we do — you know where to find us. We’d love to work with you. (Approximately 150 students signed up for more information about The Post during events this past week- end. We’re having an informational meeting Wednesday at 8 p.m. on the third floor of Baker. Stop by if you’re interested!)
Now, it’s time to sharpen our pencils and swing by the store to pick up a notebook or two. We have a lot of work to do, and we urge you to bookmark our website, read our newspaper and interact with us on social media.
