Social media reports began rolling in around midnight on Thursday night that a white, Ford Mustang crashed into The Crystal, 34 North Court St.
“We were inside and we heard a rumble like an earthquake,” said Cory Knavel, a junior studying finance. “I was scared because I saw it leaking fluid. My first thought was just ‘Holy cow, that just happened.’”
Vince Calo, a senior studying exercise physiology was on his way home down Court Street from studying at Ping when he witnessed the crash.
“My buddy was driving and he swerved towards Lucky’s because the Mustang was coming the wrong way down Court Street and was going to hit us,” Calo said. “Then the car went straight into a street lamp into Crystal.
Calo and his friend went to check on the driver, but he ran down Court Street toward BP before they could see how he was doing.
“Crystal bouncers took off after him,” Calo said.
The light pole outside of the bar fell after being struck by the car, said Dan Sayer, a doorman at The C. I., who felt the crash.
“I felt the building shake really bad,” he said. “Then I just tried to keep people inside but when they saw the lights the crowd just got bigger and bigger. It was nuts. I couldn’t believe it.”
Eyewitnesses claimed there were no injuries as a result of the crash, but police and fire officials refused to comment.
The Crystal tweeted that the crash caused “just a scratch.”
