At least for the time being, Pat Lang appears headed toward becoming the next Athens County Common Pleas Court judge.
Unofficial tallies tab Lang ahead of fellow challenger Todd Grace 1,604 votes to 1,586. William Biddlestone had 570 votes cast in his favor. Those totals are for the Democratic primary for the position. There were no Republican primary candidates.
The judge position opened up after longtime judge L. Alan Goldsberry announced he would retire at the end of his current term.
Provisional ballots have yet to be cast, and the official results will not be available until May 23, an Athens County Board of Elections worker told The Post Tuesday night.
Lang announced his candidacy in late January, according to a previous Post article.
In 2012, Lang unsuccessfully ran against U.S. Congressman Steve Stivers, a Republican, for Stivers' seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Lang currently serves as the Athens city law director and is an Ohio University alumnus.
