Baseball: Ohio finishes season in sweep at the hands of Miami

In a fitting end to a struggle of a season for Ohio, the squad was swept in its closing three-game series at home against Miami.

They were outscored by a combined score of 30-10 this past weekend, including a 16-1 domination by the Red Hawks on Saturday.

With 47 hits in the weekend series, Miami forced Ohio to use 13 pitchers, but the starting freshman pitchers on Thursday and Friday, Jake Roehn and Jake Rudnicki, were able to last a total of 11 1/3 innings before being replaced.

The silver lining of the weekend came from the play of freshman third baseman Ty Black. He went five-for-five in Thursday’s game, with a run scored and a run batted in during Ohio’s opening game with Miami. Black registered seven of the team’s 27 hits this past weekend.

Prior to Saturday’s season finale, Ohio honored their four seniors at Bob Wren Stadium. Those seniors are outfielder Chandler Geller, left-handed pitcher Sean Kennedy, right-handed pitcher Brad Przebieda and outfielder Scott White.

On senior day, Geller led the Bobcats’ offense with two of the team’s five hits.

White was injured earlier in the season and only appeared in 24 games this year.

In his final series of his junior year, first baseman John Adryan recorded a hit in each of the game this weekend and added one hit and one run batted in total on the weekend. Adryan finished the season leading the Bobcats in at bats (208), hits (67), runs (29), total bases (76) and walks (21).

After earning victories in four of six and five of nine games in late April, the Bobcats finished the season on a five-game losing streak and were swept for the fourth time this season.

The Bobcats finish a very underwhelming season filled with injuries and youth with an 11-40 record.
