Women's Golf: Bobcats finish last in final tournament of the year

After three straight top-ten finishes, Ohio struggled in Columbus this weekend at the Lady Buckeye Invitational and finished in last place out of 12 teams. The Bobcats shot a combined team total of 957, which was 93 strokes over par.

No members of the Bobcats finished in the top-20 overall, either, which was also a first in three weekends. Although the performance may not have been one of its best, Ohio saw one of the best fields of competition on the season.

Four teams ranked in the top-50 teams in the country competed with No. 24 Michigan State, No. 28 Ohio State, No. 39 Kansas and No. 40 Kent State all in the field. The Bobcats also saw five of the top-100 golfers and were three strokes away from 11th place.

Sophomore and Massillon-native Angela Codian had the Bobcats best individual performance. Over the three rounds, Codian shot a combined total of 236, which was 20 strokes over par. Her lowest totals were the scores of 78 she shot in the second and third rounds. Codian finished in a tie for 34th place.

Freshman Hailey Hrynewich, a Muskegon, Mich., native, was Ohio’s second-best performer, carding a three-day total of 240 for 24 strokes over par. She shot 80s each day.

On Sunday, junior and Powell native Julie Lechner was one of six golfers in the field to have at least four birdies in the final round. Lechner finished the day with a 76 and tallied a three-day total of 24 for 26 strokes over par to finish in a tie for 57th place.

The Bobcats’ performances may not have been the best, but it could serve as good competition to help the team prepare for their most important tournament of the year next weekend at the Mid-American Conference Tournament in Fishers, Ind.
