A Hocking College student, who was last seen walking home from the Hoopla in the Hills music festival, has been declared missing, officials said Wednesday.
Police are currently investigating the disappearance of James Michael Stucky, a 27-year-old white male from Nelsonville who was declared missing after his mother reported to the Nelsonville Police Department on Wednesday morning.
Stucky is described to be 6 foot 1 inch, weighing 214 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen walking back to Athens from the festival Saturday at 9 p.m.
Hocking College Director of Marketing and Media Relations Laura Alloway confirmed the school was aware of the disappearance.
“(Hocking) is a small college community,” Alloway said. “We were immediately concerned when we heard. We are looking to provide assistance to the Nelsonville Police in trying to locate him quickly and safely.”
Hocking College Police Chief Al Matthews said Stucky’s mother had stopped by to speak with a campus police officer around 11:43 a.m. and is helping assist Nelsonville in getting more information. Matthews also said the disappearance did not occur near the campus.
“When he was last seen, it wasn’t around any part of our campuses or property,” he said. “There is no evidence of an immediate threat to Hocking College surrounding his disappearance.”
Some Hocking College students responded to the disappearance, expressing hope that Stucky will be found safe and unharmed, such as Zachary Godby, a senior studying surgical technology.
“I empathize with his mother and the circumstances surrounding his disappearance,” he said.
Nelsonville Police Chief of Police Jason Wallace was not available for comment by press time.
