Hauser to leave Ohio after being named next athletic director at High Point

North Carolina’s High Point University announced Tuesday that Dan Hauser, Ohio’s senior associate athletic director for external operations, will soon assume its athletic director role.

Hauser, who has been with Ohio Athletics for eight years, oversaw the department’s marketing and promotions, ticket operations, media relations and the Ohio Bobcat Sports Network. Recently, he has also headed the search for naming rights to The Convo and the field at Peden Stadium.

He said he will continue that role until July 1 to finish projects he’s currently completing with Director of Athletics Jim Schaus. He also said he will help make his replacement’s transition smooth to keep the “outstanding progress moving forward for Ohio Athletics.”

Hauser said he will not be involved in the process of selecting his replacement, however.

During his tenure at Ohio, football ticket sales increased 128 percent, men’s basketball season ticket sales jumped by 144 percent and two programs’ combined annual ticket revenue grew by 86 percent. Hauser also helped secure $1.2 million in capital gifts for the Walter Fieldhouse.

“It’s an opportunity that was just kind of the right fit at the right time. I loved my tenure here at Ohio University,” Hauser said. “It really took a special opportunity for me to consider leaving, and this was just that opportunity.”

Before his tenure at Ohio, Hauser spent seven years at Wake Forest as its director of marketing.

High Point, a Division I school, competes in 16 varsity sports and is a member of the Big South Conference.

“The relationships I’ve built in the community and with the Bobcat students and fans over my eight years have truly enabled us to have success,” Hauser said. “I was fortunate enough to be at Ohio at the right time.”
