Chauncey man found guilty of multiple felonies

A Chauncey man was sentenced to five years in prison Tuesday after attempting to hide items in his car during a traffic stop and for attempting to use his son’s urine during a drug test.

Eli Mayles, 25, was found guilty of two indictments, one charging tampering with evidence and obstructing justice and the other charging one count of tampering with evidence.

Law enforcement stopped Mayle for a traffic violation and vehicle defects in December where he was found with three needles that he attempted to hide from the officers, according to a news release from Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn’s office.

In another case, “Mayles attempted to use his three-year-old son’s urine to submit a drug test in violation of the terms and conditions of community control on his remaining cases,” Blackburn said in the release.

Mayles also violated community control standards for two other indictments charging theft, receiving stolen property and forgery. In addition to the five-year prison term, the release stated “the State will oppose any application for early release.”

Mayles has been incarcerated in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail on a bond of $5,000 since Jan. 30, according to the jail’s booking documents.
