A Nelsonville man who was sentenced to four years in prison after trying to assault a police officer with his car in June 2012 was placed on a higher bond Tuesday and is on judicial release, according to jail booking documents.
John Mace, 32, pleaded guilty to one count of felonious assault last January as part of a plea agreement in the Athens County Common Pleas Court. He was placed on a new bond of $75,000 at a bond hearing Tuesday.
His original bond was $5,000, which was set at his arraignment in July 2012, where he pleaded not guilty.
According to court documents, Mace “knowingly” attempted to cause physical harm to Nelsonville Police Officer Alan Sullivan by driving toward him forcefully in his Dodge Dakota truck June 17, 2012.
Sullivan dove out of the way and fired his gun in the direction of the truck, according to a previous
