Next week, more than 60 Ohio University students will attend a networking event in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The event, put on by the Charlotte Chapter of the Ohio University Alumni Association, has been held annually for the past 11 years.
“The event is really one of the best examples of a chapter engaging with current university students,” said Sarah Vaughn, assistant director of external relations.
Vaughn has been preparing students for the event, including working with the Career Leadership Center to teach them proper etiquette.
The event in Charlotte includes a formal banquet, company visits, alumni panels and a happy hour.
“We hope that students who attend the event realize there are cities outside of Ohio with a very large alumni presence, that are young, and also have fun and interesting things to do,” said Jackie Volkmann, president of the Charlotte chapter.
In addition to being exposed to the city of Charlotte, students who attend the event will have the opportunity to meet with some major business leaders in the area.
That list of companies last year included Bank of America, Container Graphics Corporation, American City Business Journals and Duke Energy.
The event has a $10 registration fee and a round-trip bus will run for $30. Students who attend are otherwise responsible for their own lodging and transportation.
“We want these business leaders to take note of Ohio University students and for the students to learn more about what it means to network,” Vaughn said.
