A Glouster man, accused of murdering his father, has a pretrial set for Feb. 24 in Athens County Common Pleas Court, and it’s Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly’s responsibility to bring him back to Athens for the hearing.
Paul J. Roberts, 41, is accused of killing his father, Paul E. Roberts, after an apparent physical dispute in October. Law enforcement found the elder Roberts’ body in a well under the porch after arriving at the residence to arrest the younger Roberts for vandalism.
The state is requested to prepare a warrant for Roberts’ removal from his correctional facility in Harrisburg, Ohio, to appear in court in Athens, seeing as Harrisburg is located in Franklin and Pickaway counties.
That’s where Kelly comes in.
Kelly could not be reached by press time for this story.
Paul J. Roberts was previously incarcerated in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail until Jan. 27, when he was moved to the Correctional Reception Center in Harrisburg, Ohio, according to court documents.
Roberts was indicted Oct. 28 in the Athens County Common Pleas Court on nine felony charges, including aggravated murder, gross abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence.
