This letter is a response to a column by Matt Farmer that appeared in the Feb. 17 edition of The Post under the headline "OU's history curriculum could use some diversity." You can read that column here.
I want to honor the fine column on Feb. 17 by Matt Farmer about how Ohio University’s history curriculum needs more diversity. This is very important. I was in shock that OU’s George Washington Forum is funded by the Koch Foundation, one of the nation’s most regressive groups. Why is OU seeking support from them and inviting speakers who represent this point of view? And why is there no course in the history department about this region’s coal mining, strip mining, natural gas wells and other exploitation of this land to benefit big energy companies?
