Death of Gahanna resident unsolved after fall ruled out as cause

The man who fell and hit his head near a Court Street bar early Sunday morning did not die from the fall, Athens County Coroner Harold Thompson said.

“There were no obvious signs of trauma,” Thompson said.

William Patrick Thomas, 23 of Gahanna, Ohio, was found bleeding from the head by the back stairwell of The Over Hang, 63 N. Court St., according to a release from the Athens Police Department.

Toxicology and tissue samples were submitted for analysis. Final results should be back within eight weeks, Thompson said.

The fall was previously believed to be fatal.

Police responded at around 1:15 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived, authorities found Thomas in cardiac arrest. Police performed CPR until Athens County EMS arrived, according to the release.
