An Athens man appeared in court Friday and changed his plea to guilty on three indictments including theft, felonious assault and domestic violence.
Michael Boivin, 54, pleaded guilty to an indictment charging one count of burglary, one count of receiving stolen property, one count of theft and one count of theft of drugs. He also pleaded guilty to two other indictments charging one count of assault, one count of domestic violence and two additional counts of receiving stolen property.
He had originally pleaded not guilty to all charges at his arraignment in February 2013.
All of his charges are of felonies of the first through fifth degrees, according to the Ohio Revised Code.
Judge L. Alan Goldsberry sentenced Boivin to five years in prison for the indictment charging felonious assault and domestic violence. Once he’s out of prison, he is to serve five years of community control for the other indictments.
“Boivin did forcibly enter a residence on Washington Street and remove a variety of items, including prescription medications, without permission,” Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn said in a news release. “Boivin did violently assault his girlfriend (and) was found to be in possession of two stolen credit (or) debit cards.”
According to the jail’s booking documents, Boivin has been incarcerated in the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail since May 21.
Court documents state that he has been held on a bond of $80,000 and has been ordered to avoid contact with the woman he allegedly assaulted.
