City Law Director to announce candidacy for common pleas court

Athens City Law Director Pat Lang confirmed late Monday that he plans to announce on Tuesday his candidacy for Athens County Common Pleas Court, Judge L. Alan Goldsberry’s seat on the court.

Lang will make his announcement at a reception to be held at The Pigskin Bar & Grille, 38 N. Court St. He was unable to be reached for comment by press time.

Lang ran an unsuccessful bid for Congress in 2012, when U.S. Rep. Steve Stivers, R-Columbus, defeated him easily.

Stivers defeated Lang by more than 84,000 votes, a 20-percentage point spread. Lang won only in the district of his home county, Athens, and took less than 70 percent of the vote, according to a previous Post article.

However, Lang said in the article that he was grateful for all of his support and congratulated Stivers on his achievement.

“I’m particularly gratified to have won Athens County, where folks know (my wife) and me best,” Lang said.

According to the Law Department’s website, Lang has been the Law Director since 2007 and has previously served as a member of the Athens City Council and an assistant Athens County Prosecutor.
