Several city and county offiails have said they would like to see new cameras on Court Street that record hi-resolution footage for law enforcement purposes. Currently, the four city cameras are low-resolution and only act as live streams.
An article on the front page of Wednesday's issue of The Post detailed reasonings officials gave for new cameras that can be helpful for the city's crime stopping efforts.
But Mayor Paul Wiehl said aside from having cameras that record, he hopes to have more live camera feeds on Court Street.
“It’s good for tourism value,” Wiehl said.
Ohio University’s Alumni Association implemented a live webcam overlooking College Green in June for $788, and Wiehl said he wanted to follow suit with live cameras in the city.
“It wouldn’t be bad to have live feeds for people to see their old stomping ground,” he said.
