Ohio University’s Student Senate voted to officially support facial hair at its meeting Wednesday night.
Senate voted in favor of Vice President for Student Affairs Ryan Lombardi’s participation in the American Cancer Society’s No Shave November fundraiser.
The fundraiser began in 2009 with less than 50 participants, but has since grown into a global phenomenon. The movement aims to spread cancer awareness, according to the American Cancer Society’s website.
OU students have encouraged Lombardi’s participation in the fundraiser on Twitter, by using, “#Lombeardi.”
However, Lombardi has been hesitant to participate, citing official meetings and his daughters’ preference of a clean-shaven father.
“I strongly urge you to vote against this” he joked, before Senate members took an open vote.
Senate members also voted to change the LGBT commission’s name to the LGBTQA commission, in an effort to be more inclusive to various genders.
