The Ohio women’s golf team came out the gate strong during the first day of competition Monday at the Rocket Classic, as the Bobcats finished the day in sixth place on the leaderboard.
Toledo, the host team, is leading the tournament after shooting a total score of 597 for a 21-over-par. The Rockets also seem to be pulling away for the title, as second place team, Bowling Green, fired a combined 622 for 46-over-par.
Ohio is 34 strokes behind, the leader as it recorded 631 strokes for 55-over-par Monday.
The first-day leaders for the Bobcats were sophomore Angela Codian and senior Kristen Helmsdoerfer, who are tied for ninth individually with scores of nine-over-par, after each shot a 153 for the day.
Codian ended the first round in 12thplace, but climbed up to ninth after shooting a 74 in the second round, which was a five-stroke improvement from her first round.
Junior Julie Lechner is tied for 29th for 15-over-par and a shot total score of 159. Freshman Hailey Hrynewich shot a 161 for 17-over-par through the first two rounds, while senior Kara Brinkmann and sophomore Lauren McKinzie are farther down on the leaderboard with scores of 23-over-par and 28-over-par, respectively.
The top three individual leaders in the Rocket Classic are all from Toledo, as Manisa Isavas is tied for fourth after recording a scores of six-over-par, while Sathika Ruenreong and Jennifer Elsholz are tied for the lead, as they both shot a two-round score of 148 for three-over-par.
