One of the two Athens residents accused of kidnapping a 16-year-old girl and using her as a prostitute in exchange for money and drugs was indicted Monday.
Aileen Mays, 27, is currently incarcerated in Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail. She was indicted by the September term of the Athens County Grand Jury for three counts of compelling prostitution and one count of trafficking in persons.
Athens County Sheriff’s Office deputies investigated a Rocky Point Road residence with a search warrant on Sept. 27, after caseworkers from Athens County Children Services received information that a teenaged girl was being used for prostitution in exchange for money and drugs.
The victim is safe and in the care of Children Services, according to a news release from Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly’s office.
The compelling prostitution charges are felonies of the second and third degrees and trafficking is a felony of the first degree, according to the Ohio Revised Code.
Fred Kittle Sr., 69, who is a registered sex offender in Athens County, was arrested Sept. 27 for one count of compelling prostitution and one count of importuning.
The charges are felonies of the third and fourth degree respectively, according to the Ohio Revised Code.
However, Kittle’s case was dismissed without prejudice in the Athens County Municipal Court following his bond posting Sept. 28, according to a news release from Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn’s office.
“Kittle’s case will remain in the investigation status at the Athens County Prosecutor’s Office at this time,” Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn said in the release.
Mays is to be arraigned Oct. 16.
