Logan man sentenced to four years for theft

Athens County Common Pleas Court Judge L. Alan Goldsberry sentenced a Logan man to prison Friday for theft of firearms, among other charges.

Austin Daugherty, 22, was given a four-year sentence in prison for an indictment charging “one felony count of breaking and entering, two felony counts of burglary (and) two counts of grand theft when the property is a firearm,” said Athens County Prosecutor Keller Blackburn in a news release.

According to the release, Daugherty broke the glass door of Mountaineer Mechanical, located on Canaanville Road in Athens, and stole multiple weapons in June.

Daugherty was also charged with a separate count of breaking and entering, for which he will serve six months in jail on top of his four-year sentence.

He also broke the front door of Mountaineer Mechanical and broke into a nearby work van in July 2012.

The owner of Mountaineer Mechanical could not be reached for comment by press time.

According to the release, Daugherty could be issued a judicial release if he receives a favorable report from the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail warden.

“If judicial release is granted, the defendant will be required to complete a community-based (or) correction-based facility program like the SEPTA (Correctional Facility) in Nelsonville,” the release states.
